TEER (Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair)

When heart valves don’t close properly, blood can leak backwards instead of moving forward. This is called valve regurgitation, and over time, it can cause shortness of breath, fatigue, swelling, and heart failure symptoms.

TEER is a minimally invasive way to fix leaking heart valves (most often the mitral or tricuspid valve) without open-heart surgery. Instead of replacing the valve, this technique repairs it by clipping the valve leaflets together, allowing blood to flow more normally.

How it Works

● A thin catheter is guided through a vein to reach the heart.
● A small device (clip) is placed on the valve leaflets.
● This reduces the backward flow of blood, helping the heart pump more efficiently.

Types of TEER

● Mitral Valve TEER (mTEER): Treats severe mitral regurgitation, where blood leaks backward into the left atrium. This can relieve breathlessness, fatigue, and swelling.
● Tricuspid Valve TEER (tTEER): A newer approach for tricuspid regurgitation, where blood leaks backward into the right atrium. This improves quality of life in patients with advanced heart failure symptoms.

Benefits of TEER

● Minimally invasive: No open-heart surgery, safer for older patients or those at high surgical risk.
● Quick recovery: Most patients feel relief soon after the procedure.
● Symptom relief: Less breathlessness, more energy, and improved ability to do daily activities.
● Better heart health: Helps prevent worsening heart failure by reducing strain on the heart.

Why Choose TEER

TEER has become a trusted option for patients who were once told nothing more could be done. Backed by advanced imaging and performed by a specialized team of cardiologists and surgeons, it offers a life-changing alternative to surgery.

For the right patients, TEER means fewer hospital visits, better daily function, an the chance to live with more comfort and confidence.
