Our Treatment

ECMO & Impella Protected PCI

Using ECMO or Impella support ensures complex, high-risk interventions are performed safely, offering patients the best chance for successful revascularization and improved heart function.

What It Is

Protected PCI uses advanced mechanical support devices like ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) and Impella to support the heart during high-risk percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI). These devices help maintain blood flow and oxygen delivery, allowing safe treatment of complex blockages in patients with weakened heart function.

Why It’s Used

● For patients with severe coronary artery disease and poor heart function.
● During high-risk PCI procedures where the heart may struggle to maintain adequate blood flow.
● Provides extra safety for patients with acute heart failure or complex lesions.

How It Works

● Impella: A tiny pump inserted into the heart to maintain blood flow during PCI.
● ECMO: A life-support system that oxygenates and circulates blood outside
the body, reducing stress on the heart.
● These devices allow cardiologists to perform complex procedures safely, even
in patients at high risk for complications.

Benefits

● Maintains stable blood flow and oxygen levels during high-risk procedures.
● Reduces the risk of heart complications during PCI.
● Enables treatment of blockages that would otherwise be too risky to manage.
